Frequently Asked Questions

  • What types of windows do you offer?

We offer a comprehensive range including uPVC casement windows, tilt & turn windows, sliding sash windows, aluminium windows, and timber alternative windows. All are A++ energy rated with advanced security features and available in various colours and finishes.

  • What's the difference between composite and uPVC doors?

Composite doors have a solid timber core wrapped in high-density foam and GRP (glass reinforced plastic), making them extremely strong and thermally efficient. uPVC doors are more cost-effective, still very secure, and easier to maintain. Both offer excellent security and come with our 10-year warranty.

  • Which conservatory style is right for my home?

Victorian conservatories suit period properties with their ornate design. Edwardian styles offer more floor space with a square/rectangular shape. Lean-to conservatories work well with bungalows or properties with height restrictions. We’ll assess your home during our free survey to recommend the best option.

  • Are your windows triple glazed?

We offer both double and triple glazing options. Triple glazing provides superior thermal and acoustic insulation, making it ideal for properties in exposed locations or near busy roads. We’ll help you choose based on your specific needs and budget during consultation.

  • Do you offer custom window sizes and shapes?

Yes, absolutely. All our windows are made-to-measure for your property. We can accommodate unusual shapes including arched, circular, and bay windows. Our survey team will take precise measurements to ensure a perfect fit.

  • What security features do your doors have?

All our doors feature advanced multi-point locking systems with anti-snap cylinders, internal beading, and reinforced frames. Many models are Secured by Design approved by the Police Crime Prevention Initiative, meeting the highest security standards.

  • Can conservatories be used year-round?

Yes, our modern conservatories with Ultraframe roofing systems include superior insulation and can be fitted with heating and proper ventilation, making them comfortable in all seasons. We’ll design your conservatory to maintain comfortable temperatures throughout the year.

  • What colours and finishes are available?

We offer an extensive range of colours for windows and doors including white, cream, black, grey, and woodgrain effects like Irish Oak, Rosewood, and Golden Oak. Many products can have different internal and external colours. We’ll show you samples during your consultation.

  • Do you offer tinted or patterned glass?

Yes, we offer various glass options including obscure glass for privacy (bathroom/toilet windows), tinted glass for sun control, decorative glazing, self-cleaning glass, and noise-reducing acoustic glass. We’ll help you select the right glass for each window location.

  • What's the energy efficiency of your products?

All our windows and doors achieve minimum A+ energy ratings, with many achieving A++ ratings. This means lower heating bills, reduced carbon footprint, and a more comfortable home. We provide detailed energy performance certificates with every installation.

  • How long does installation take?

Window and door installations typically take 1-2 days depending on project size. A full conservatory build takes 2-4 weeks depending on size and complexity. We’ll provide a detailed timeline during your consultation and keep you informed throughout the process.

  • Will installation be disruptive to my daily routine?

We minimise disruption as much as possible. Windows and doors are usually completed within a day or two, with your home secure each evening. For conservatories, we manage deliveries and construction carefully, keeping noise and mess to a minimum. Many customers continue working from home during installation.

  • Do you remove and dispose of old windows/doors?

Yes, we remove all old windows, doors, and frames as part of our service. We dispose of them responsibly through our comprehensive recycling program, ensuring materials are properly recycled wherever possible.

  • What happens if the weather is bad during installation?

We monitor weather forecasts closely and plan accordingly. If severe weather is predicted, we’ll reschedule to ensure quality isn’t compromised. For unexpected weather changes during installation, we take protective measures to keep your home secure and dry.

  • Do you need access to the inside of my home?

Yes, our installers will need internal access to fit windows and doors properly, apply sealant, and check operation. We use dust sheets to protect your floors and furniture, and clean up thoroughly after completion.

  • Can you work around my schedule?

Absolutely. We offer flexible scheduling including early starts, late finishes, and weekend installations where possible. We’ll work with you to find times that minimise disruption to your routine.

  • What preparation do I need to do before installation?

We ask that you clear window sills and move furniture away from windows/doors to give our team easy access. For conservatories, we’ll need clear access to the installation area. We’ll provide a detailed preparation checklist when we confirm your installation date.

  • Are your installers trained and certified?

Yes, all our installation teams are fully trained, certified, and background-checked. They hold relevant qualifications including FENSA certification, health & safety training, and product-specific certifications. Most of our installers have been with us for over 10 years.

  • What warranties do you provide?

We provide comprehensive coverage: 10-year warranty on frames and sealed glass units, 2-year warranty on moving parts (handles, hinges, locks), 2-year installation warranty, and insurance-backed guarantees protecting your investment even if we cease trading.

  • What does the warranty cover?

The warranty covers manufacturing defects, installation issues, seal failures, frame warping or discolouration, and hardware malfunctions. It doesn’t cover damage from accidents, misuse, extreme weather events, or lack of maintenance. Full terms are provided with every installation.

  • Do you offer repair services?

Yes, we provide professional repair services for all Turkington products under warranty. For items out of warranty, we offer paid repair services including lock replacements, seal repairs, and hardware adjustments. Contact us with your warranty documentation for fastest service.

  • How do I make a warranty claim?

Contact us via phone or email with your installation details and a description of the issue. We’ll arrange an inspection (usually within 3-5 working days) and carry out any warranty work promptly. Keep your original paperwork safe as you’ll need your installation date and reference number.

  • What maintenance is required?

Minimal maintenance is needed. Clean frames with mild soapy water every few months, lubricate moving parts annually with light oil, check and clear drainage holes, and keep tracks clean on sliding windows/doors. We provide a detailed maintenance guide with every installation.

  • What areas do you cover?

We cover all of Northern Ireland including Belfast, Lisburn, Portadown, Bangor, Newry, Armagh, Craigavon, Antrim, and surrounding areas. Contact us to confirm we cover your specific location – we likely do!

  • Do I need planning permission?

In most cases, replacing existing windows and doors doesn’t require planning permission as it’s considered permitted development. Conservatories may require planning permission if they exceed certain size limits or if your property is listed or in a conservation area. We’ll advise during your consultation and can recommend planning consultants if needed.

  • Where are your showrooms?

We have two showrooms where you can see working displays of our windows, doors and conservatory roof systems: Portadown – James Park, Mahon Road, Portadown, Co Armagh, BT62 3EH; and Lisburn – 17 Linenhall St, Lisburn, County Antrim, BT28 1FJ.

  • How quickly can you provide a quote?

We typically schedule free surveys within 3-5 working days of your enquiry. During the survey (lasting 45-60 minutes), we take measurements and discuss your requirements. You’ll receive a detailed written quote within 24-48 hours. No pressure, no obligation.

  • Do you work with listed buildings?

Yes, we have extensive experience working with listed buildings and properties in conservation areas. We understand the requirements for maintaining period features and can supply heritage-style windows that meet conservation officer approval while providing modern performance.
