Window & Door Maintenance
Keep your windows, doors and conservatories in perfect condition with Turkington’s maintenance guidance
Maintaining Your Windows & Doors
Proper maintenance ensures your windows, doors and conservatories remain in top condition and perform efficiently for years to come. Our products are designed to be low maintenance, but a few simple steps can extend their lifespan, maintain their appearance and ensure smooth operation throughout the year.
-
Low Maintenance
Our uPVC and aluminium products require minimal upkeep to look great.
-
Regular Checks
Simple annual checks keep your products performing at their best.
-
Long Lifespan
Proper care extends the life of your windows and doors significantly.
-
Cleaning your windows & doors
Clean the frames and glass regularly using warm soapy water and a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents on uPVC frames as these can cause discolouration. For aluminium frames, a mild detergent and water is ideal. Always rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth to prevent water marks.
-
Maintaining hardware & seals
Lubricate hinges, handles and locking mechanisms annually with a light machine oil or specialist uPVC lubricant. Check the rubber seals around windows and doors periodically — if they appear cracked or compressed, contact us for replacement. Well-maintained seals ensure energy efficiency and weather protection.
-
Conservatory maintenance
Keep conservatory gutters and drainage channels clear of debris to prevent water ingress. Clean the roof panels with warm soapy water (never pressure wash polycarbonate roofs). Check for any condensation between double-glazed units — this indicates a failed seal and should be reported to us.
Common Maintenance Questions
-
How often should I clean my windows?
We recommend cleaning window frames and glass at least twice a year — more frequently in areas with heavy pollution or coastal environments.
-
My window handle feels stiff — what should I do?
Apply a small amount of light machine oil or uPVC lubricant to the handle mechanism. If the stiffness persists, contact our service team.
-
There's condensation between my double-glazed panes — is this covered by warranty?
Condensation between panes indicates a failed sealed unit and is covered under our 10-year product guarantee. Contact us to arrange an inspection.
